Compensatory foot arch exercises for athletes under the age of 18

Title: Compensatory foot arch exercises for athletes under the age of 18 Objectives: The aim of the Bachelor thesis was to examine the effect of compensatory exercises on the shape and function of the foot arch in athletes under the age of 18. Method: In a quantitative empirical study in the form of a quasi-experiment, a group of performance athletes from track and field sports club ASK Dipoli z.s (n = 10, 6 girls, 4 boys) underwent a 2-month intervention program to support the foot arch. Separate exercises for activating and stabilising the foot arch took place 3 times a week for 10 minutes. In the data collection, diagnostic tests, biomedical and physical measurements related to the foot arch were used in both the pre-test and post-test: aspection, palpation, evaluation of leg stabilization, anthropometric data regarding the foot arch, evaluation of the foot printed on paper, and other specific tests. Using the Excel software, the results were recorded and statistically processed at the level of comparison of values between each test. Results: As a result of the intervention, 2 of the 10 probands experienced changes in leg stabilization, which was assessed with a test by standing on 1 leg. The impact of sport climbing on anatomic structure and functional attributes of human feet

The theme of this bachelor´s thesis is a study of the impact of sport climbing on structure and functional characteristics of the foot. The aim of this thesis is to compare the structure and functional characteristics of the feet of people that actively pursue sport climbing with the feet of people that do not. In the theoretical part of this thesis is briefly described climbing in all of its forms including sport climbing. There are also described functional anatomy and kinesiology of the foot, including kinetics and kinematics and basic information about proprioception. In the practical part are introduced probands that participated in this study. There are two groups of five probands. One group is comprised of active sport climbers, one group of non-climbers. There are also summary and comparison of all the data and results obtained during examinations. Final characteristics of the foot of climbers are in comparison with non-climbers rather positive. It turned out that the group of climbers has better characteristics in functional attributes of the foot, strength of the foot arch and symmetry of both feet. On the other side the group of non-climbers has better outcome in the flexibility and range of motions in selected joints.

The influence of sensorimotor stimulation induced by specialized tools and pshysioterapeutical techniques on the function of the foot of middle childhood aged children

This bachelor thesis addresses the function issues of children's foot and the possible ways of influencing it by using sensomotoric stimulation. The foot is an important organ, which has multiple functions. Locomotion is one of the primary functions. The ability to adapt to different types of surfaces is one of the other functions. The gait on different terrains is natural for the foot. Alas, under the influence of the modern age, we the deviate from nature and lock our feet into misshapen footwear. Last but not least it is the sensitive component, which allows the motor system to respond appropriately to stimuli. The name of this phenomenon is sensorimotor coordination. Its base principle is the processing of data sent from the proprioceptors embedded in the body structures. The central nervous system processes the information and responds in an organism-specific way. It is an essential requirement for physiological gait. Basic information allowing the understanding of the given topic is stated in the theoretical part, for example the anatomy and structure of the locomotion system in the lower extremity area, biomechanics of gait included. A great deal of attention is paid to sensomotoric stimulation and its possible usage. The practical part was made in the form of a qualitative research. The research poll consists of four younger school-aged subjects, who took part in a 3-month therapy. The results were obtained by comparing the pre-therapy examination and post-therapy examination. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to conduct a survey about sensomotoric stimulation and to elaborate how it can impact functions of the foot. The results show, that it can have a positive impact on subjects with signs of flat feet. The muscles of flat feet are flaccid and therefore the sensomotoric stimulation is a suitable therapy for this condition. It activates the main leg joints stabilizers and the short muscles of the arches. The results are not as convincing in the case of a high arch, nevertheless even this condition has shown improvement. The muscles of a foot with a high arch have higher tension and in many cases, structural changes are present. These changes can be removed only by operation, e.g. pes cavus. Nonetheless if the therapy is undertaken at an early age and with a proper intensity, a positive effect can be achieved. Sensomotoric stimulation should be a part of natural development for the human body. It ensures the correct and efficient integrating of muscle units during locomotion.
Shoes and its effect on the foot and posture

This thesis in focused on the influence of footwear not only directly on the foot and its sole but also on the posture and body as a whole. The foot is firstly the organ that enables movement of the locomotive system but which also provides direct contact with the surroundings and the way of getting information about it through proprioception. The foot also enables "keeping" to the ground we move on. It is connected through the muscle system with the levels above and so mutual influence of all body segments is established. The posture of lumbar spine, the function of the diaphragm, posture of the cervical spine and of the shoulder joints are the most important. Due to the fact that we spend two thirds of the day, or 16 hours a day, wearing shoes, their influence cannot be insignificant. Most types of shoes hinder the above mentioned functions of the feet through their faulty construction and their influence can be described more as that of a splint. Wearing some shoes can bring completely unnatural or even pathological foot posture which through the muscle systems further influences faulty posture of higher body segments. Data for this research were obtained using qualitative research with 12 students of the University of South Bohemia participating. The research group was divided into three categories by the type of worn footwear (naked, sport and healed footwear respectively). Subjective examination of the standing posture as well as examination using a lead was conducted. The walking gait was examined first barefoot, then in normal wear and finally on narrowed base. Finally the examination of the foot was performed where activity and function was tested using the Véle method, further the toe abduction and the grip tests. The aim of this research was to map the influences of wearing the different types of shoes on the body as a whole. The results show that a foot capable of full activity and function is closely connected to the correct activity of the diaphragm. On the contrary, with pathological function of the foot the function of the higher body segments will be influenced negatively. The foot is therefore concluded to play a major role in the function of the locomotive system and should always be taken into account in physiotherapy.
